In a time of social distancing, one of our wonderful partners found a creative way to connect their worldwide community in support of the Lespwa Timoun Clinic. Light from Light will host their 6th Annual Hope for Haiti 5K virtually on July 17, 2021.

Given the recent and heartbreaking news out of Haiti, including President Jovenel Moise’s assassination, this 5K is a great way to support the Haitian people. Because this event is virtual, it has opened up participation from supporters worldwide. Last year, due to COVID-19, Light from Light hosted its first virtual 5K with unforeseen success. 265 runners from 19 states, Puerto Rico, Haiti, and Spain came together to support the Lespwa Timoun Clinic. Because the race was virtual, it also allowed for staff from the clinic in Haiti to participate. This year, Light from Light hopes to exceed 2020 participation numbers. To do so, Light from Light needs your help!

Runners, walkers, healthcare supporters, and more worldwide can participate remotely in solidarity with the Haitian- led staff at the clinic in Croix- des- Bouquets. From July 11 to July 18, participants will run remotely and report their time electronically. Interested individuals can register online and will receive a race number and a T-shirt in the mail before the event. Registration is $30 for a single adult, with varying rates for children, students, and groups. You can register at https://www.lightfromlight.me/hopeforhaiti5k.

“There is something especially motivating about participating in the Hope for Haiti 5K and knowing that the clinic staff is running with you from afar,” said Hannah Jones, Light from Light’s Executive Director. “The partnership between Light from Light and the Lespwa Timoun Clinic is unique, and this 5K is such a beautiful manifestation of that.”

All proceeds from the Hope for Haiti 5K will directly benefit the Lespwa Timoun Clinic around three primary areas of work: malnutrition care for children, access to healthcare for the most marginalized people, and healthcare geared towards women and children.
